Hey there spring, and Happy Birthday to everyone with a March Birthday. Spring is here which means warm weather is coming! Which also means the earth comes back to life, bringing with it beautiful things. Winter is wiped away in a matter of a few weeks, the ground is thawing and the birds are returning from their southern winter homes. To celebrate spring we often plant bulbs in our gardens for instant and first color of the season.

So lets talk about March. The month known for rebirth and new beginnings, the time of year when spring creeps up from the ground with bright colors like the Daffodil, a spring bulb that announces spring. The Daffodil also known as Narcissus and Jonquil, is a type of flowering plant that belongs to the Amaryllis family. There are 26 to 60 different species of wild Daffodils. They are native to Europe, northern parts of Africa and western parts of Asia and Mediterranean. Narcissus is a classical Greek name in honor of a beautiful youth who became so entranced with his own reflection that he pined away and the gods turned him into this flower.

Daffodils develop from the bulb which stores all nutrients required for successful development of the stem and flowers. Spring flowering bulbs are planted in the autumn. Cold period during the winter ensures proper development of root.

Gifting a bouquet of Daffodils is believed to ensure happiness to the recipient and is also a symbol of hope.

But do not be surprised when winter strikes back. Snow in March (especially in MN) is a real thing.... Luckily Daffodils are surprisingly tolerant of cold. They have even been known to pop up through the snow! They are an ideal flower for novice gardeners in most regions of the U.S. They are easy to plant and hard to kill or mess up.

So happy spring and happy birthday to all my friends with a March birthday. A special happy birthday to my Mom who inspires me to write, create and chase my dreams with out holding back. I would not be doing this blog with out her encouragement!

Stay tuned... I have some more fun spring DIY posts coming!
